Lico Machinery STO Series
Optimized crosscutting at up to 1,000 ft/min with a 125 ms saw stroke.
Where an optimizing crosscut sits
The STO is a dry-end machine and a flooring machine specifically. Lico's own literature says so, and the capacity confirms it: the machine takes stock from 0.8 to 8 inches wide, which is ripped strips, not full boards. It works downstream of the rip line, with a 125 millisecond saw stroke, feeds to 1,000 feet per minute and tolerance held to plus or minus 0.030 inch over 39 inches.
In a rip-first mill this is the station that carries the quality of the finished product, because it is the second cutting operation and the second cutting operation is where most defect removal happens. It is also where the work escalates fastest as lumber grade drops. Forest Service figures put chopsaw cuts per part in a rip-first mill about 27 percent higher on No. 1 Common than on FAS, and about 53 percent higher on No. 2A Common, which is the grade most hardwood flooring is made from. A line sized on FAS numbers will run out of saw on the grade you actually buy.
